Mobile Spectrum Auction Tops $700 million

The Canadian government’s auction of cellphone wireless sprctrum moved closer to a billion dollars on Wednesday on its second day, with Quebecor so far the biggest spender.
The Montreal-based media company has committed more than $255 million while incumbent Telus Corp. is in second place and holds the most high bids.

Tom Thomson Sketch Goes for Nearly $2million

An oil sketch by Tom Thomson has sold for $1,957,500, including buyer’s premium, at a Sotheby’s auction.
“Pine Trees at Sunset,” depicts the silhouettes of three trees set against a blazing sunset.

Bidder Drops Out of Canadian Spectrum Auction

The spectrum auction bid by U.S.-based M/C Venture and Columbia Capital and Quebec-based Novacap has been withdrawn due to foreign ownership restrictions and not enough Canadian money, M/C Venture’s Sal Tirabassi said Friday.
The wireless spectrum auction begins on Tuesday and is designed to bring more competition to Canada’s multibillion-dollar cellphone market.

Heffel Auction Fine Art Takes $11.5 Million

On Thursday, Heffel Fine Art Auction House held one of the top Canadian fine art auctions in history.
